How To Use Your Magic In A Home or Apartment.

Hi everyone.
I have purchased some Magic Jacks and after much work found tips that will help you.  Like everyone I first asked myself "Does Magic Jack Really Work"? Well the answer is Yes Magic Jacks Work.

When I first bought them I was hoping to use them in a business.  You can read that article "How to use your Magic Jack in business". Times were hard and I was trying to save some money and lower our monthly bills.  Paying $40-$50  dollars a month (times two lines) for phones was adding up to $1000 plus dollars a year.  So I purchased several Magic Jacks.  Now I have a fairly large house with 4 floors so having only one phone is out of the question.  Caring a Magic Jack from floor to floor, plugging it into a new computer, was also not an option.  The second thing I realized was that you can only have one Magic Jack per computer.  This was a nuisance but after laying off many people we had plenty of extra computers around.   So here we were with multiple computers stacked upon each other buzzing away.  Tested each one with a phone and all were working fine.

As I stated above, my first attempt at making the Magic Jack more user friendly was to plug it directly back into the wall phone jack.  My thoughts were that if all my old phones worked with this wiring then so should the Magic Jack.  This sounded great until I found out the Magic Jacks would not work with our existing house wiring.  Sounded good right!  But no such luck.  There is just not enough power in the device to utilize your current wiring.  Also if you are in an apartment you do not control this wiring.

So here is what I did.  I bought a Panasonic 4 phone wireless system. The kid at Best Buy said it had the best reception.  It came with the some cool features like intercom so I don't have to yell "the call is for you".  But most importantly it came with one base station that you can plug the Magic Jack into and the rest of the phones just plug into the electric plug.  This seemed to solve all of my problems.

So to conclude....If you try hard enough you can squeeze a square peg into a round hole.
