How to BARGAIN or Haggle effectively:

Have you ever been to a local store, shop, market or garage sale and wished you could pay half off the price marked?

Here’s how!

  1. Pull out CASH (the exact amount YOU are willing to spend on that item!) out it under the nose of the vendor or seller and politely ask “will you take $10 instead of $20 for that table?

  2. NEVER pick it up in your hand like you were so attached to it, instead, leave it on the table, floor or rack where it was displayed and POINT out to it like you’re ready to WALK AWAY with your money!

  3. Always keep in mind, you have HUNDREDS, maybe THOUSANDS of places to buy the item if you so choose, they only have that ONE item to sell to a potential buyer!

  4. Be prepared to walk away

  5. If it’s a small item that you want but don’t need and it’s already cheap say 25 cents and you only want to pay HALF for it, but find it rather silly to ask for a dime, then perhaps you can point out to 2 small items and ask “would you take 25 cents for both of these?”

  6. If an item, like a garden planter has a slight chip in it (be sure it doesn’t bother YOU, or realize that once you place it amongst the shrubs in your garden, nobody’s going to notice the chip in the base anyway!) be sure to point it out, and ask if they’re willing to part with it for a fraction of the cost!

  7. We went to a local hardware chain that has a garden center which sells such planters and flower pots and got 3 high prices clay and ceramic planters for only 25 cents each!

  8. Same goes for clothes, if there’s a slight stain on a shirt (that you’re sure will not be visible upon wearing or that you know you can remove), or a small tear (that you can easily repair) or a missing button (be sure it’s one that you can easily replace!), ask for a discount and DON’T settle for only 10 to 20% off, be aggressive – chances, are most buyers are not willing to put in the 10 to 15  minutes it would take to repair it!

  9. We were at the garden center and there was a huge bag of Organic Fertilizer, marked retail at $25.99 with a dime sized hole in the corner – you guessed it, we got it for a mere $0.25 cents!

Remember, folks, if you don’t ask you don’t get! Happy Shopping!
